Endorsement of Shomer Emunim

Translation of Rabbi Meir Triebitz’s Endorsement
To my dear friend Rabbi Avinoam Fraenkel
I have looked through your translation and commentary on the well-known and important work, Shomer Emunim, by the genius, Rabbi Yosef Ergas, of saintly and blessed memory, which is an important and crucial introduction for anyone who desires to enter the Pardes [i.e., to study Kabbalah]. Even though we are not at liberty to publicly translate and comment on these matters, the author of the Nefesh HaChaim in Gate 3, Chapter 3, has already preempted me as follows:
“But I have relented and seen that this was appropriate in their generation. However, now [in today’s generation], when we have had an extended period without an instructor and all of a person’s ways appear just in his eyes to follow after his intellectual leaning and all of a person’s inclination of the thoughts of his heart is filled to only fly his thoughts towards the leaning of his intellect and above all, [he will incorrectly affirm] that this is [the essence] of the Torah,” etc.
I therefore give him my blessing that he should disseminate his wellsprings outwards, and increase the honor of Heaven and the honor of His Holy Torah.
The one who gives him his blessing,
Meir Triebitz
